Our Annual Cross Country!

Image
Room 3 have been practicing for the Cross Country at school, for the past five weeks and at last the weather stayed fine for us to have the event on Thursday. We looked absolutely fabulous dressed in our 'House' colours. We went to Williams Park and met the rest of the children in our Houses. We then went to another part of the park and did our warm up exercises. The Year 1 boys lined up ready for their event. Mr Skilton said 'Ready, Set and Marten banged the starter and they were off. They chased the year 8 around the course and all finished the race very quickly. The Year 1 girls then came to the start line and they too sped around the course to the finish line. Well done everybody on your first Cross Country! You all started the race, tried your very best and you all finished. Fantastic effort Room 3!

We know our Road Rules!

Image
On Friday morning we went to the hall and had a surprise visitor. It was Ronald McDonald, who had come to tell us a road safety story and to check that we know how to keep safe around roads and in cars. He reminded us about wearing our safety belts, walking safely on the footpaths looking out for sneaky driveways and to be careful on our bikes and around cars. We all did shared reading of the story with Miss Finlay and the rest of the Junior School. Ronald gave us a puppet that was made from one of his stripy socks.

Keeping Fit!

Image
Every morning we warm up our bodies and keep fit ready for our day's learning. We have been doing Jumpjam, Cross Country practices or fitness exercises. We go to Jumpjam on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays with our friends from the Junior School. The big girls on stage lead the songs and we copy their actions. Sometimes we get chosen to go up on stage and join them in the routines.

Our Big Buddies!

Image
Every Tuesday and Wednesday our big buddies from Room 15 meet up with us so we can do some reading together. We read a book and our Reading Rocket words to them and they read a library book, to us, that they have specially chosen. They say Hi to us out in the playground and sit with us while we eat our lunch. We really look forward to seeing our buddies!

T - Shirts!

Image
We read a book called 'T - Shirts' so we did  a response to the text by painting a T shirt, which was linked to our Visual Art topic. First we chose two different primary colours for the inner circles of our T - shirt and then we mixed them together to create a secondary colour for the rest of the T - shirt. This is how they looked.

Creating Colours!

Image
This term, in Visual Art, we are learning about mixing colours together to create new colours. We had fun experimenting with the paints and look what colours we created.

HOWIE

Image
Howie is a part of our class and helps us with our learning. Here he is surrounded by the thinking hats that we use each day. We are awarded Howie certificates at Junior School Assembly. These certificates spell CARE and are for Citizenship, Achievement, Responsibility and Effort. We try really hard to exhibit values, thinking skills, the habits of mind or achieve our next learning steps so that we can earn each one of them. Here are the fabulous learners who received certificates at our last assembly.

Keeping Safe

Image
On Tuesday morning, we joined the rest of our school for a Tsunami practice. When the bell rang we lined up behind Mrs Heath and Mrs Buckley. The teachers called the roll and then we set off. We walked quickly out the gate, over the crossing, along the footpath and up the McKenzie Road hill. When we got to the top, the roll was called again. Mr Skilton talked to us and said how fabulous we were to do this practice in only seven minutes. We then walked safely back to school.

Interesting News

Image
Every day we share news with our friends. We say good morning and introduce ourselves. We then share our ideas. This week Oscar, who speaks both Dutch and English taught us some words and songs in Dutch using his special laptop. Sam told us about his special ABBA CD so we created our own steps and danced to his favourite song. Shannyn brought her amazing bubble maker. We went outside and she demonstrated how to use it and then we all had fun trying to make enormous bubbles.

Introducing the pod

We had the pod of laptops for the first time on Wednesday. Here we are using them to navigate our way around Letterland. What quick learners we are!

The Easter Bunny comes to school

Image
On Wednesday we made colourful Easter Eggs with crayon and dye. On Thursday the Easter Bunny (alias Ella) and her helper hopped into room 3 and collected them in their basket. Later on, we went to the library for an Easter Egg hunt. When we found our egg we swapped it for a chocolate egg from Easter Bunny's basket.

Fantastic Mathematicians!

In Room 3 we do a wide range of Numeracy activities. These are some of them that we do when our teachers are working with a small group.
