Whats that Sound?

Image
When something Vibrates or shakes very ,very quickly it makes the air around it vibrate too. When these vibrations travel to our ears we hear a Sound.       We made a long distant call!Using plastic cups threaded with string we held the cups so that the string was tight. One person  whispered into one cup while their partner listened with the other . The s ound of one voice made the string vibrate carrying the sound to the other persons ear.   Wow !!-the vibrations made by banging the tray made the air vibrate and the sound was carried to the bowl making the gladwrap vibrate and the rice on the top jump. We have enjoyed mixing colours for our colour wheels.

We love Science Week!

Room 3 have had a fantastic time involved with all sorts of fun science activities this week. They did magic writing, magnetic fishing and discovering in the magnetic sand when our friends from Kindergarten visited. We joined room 2 outside to watch Mrs Mills add half an alkaseltzer tablet to the water in the container and we watched it explode. We suggested many ways as to what would happen before she put the lid on and shook it up.  Room 3 learnt about celery this week and discovered the tubes inside the stalks. Mrs Buckley put a stalk into each of five jars containing different coloured water. We wondered what would happen. Can you see any changes?  Mrs Mills showed us an experiment with eggs. First she cracked them open and put them onto a plate. We could see the yellow yolk and the egg white. She then used an empty bottle to suck up the yolk and move it onto the other plate. Can you explain why this happened? On Friday the whole school had a r

Week Two-Term 2

We enjoyed being part of Wacky Hair day on Friday-the money raised going to World Vision for distribution in Malawi. This was a school wide event.          Our big idea for  Inquiry this term. Energy exists in many forms -it can be observed, changed and put to a variety of uses in our everyday lives. We have been looking at Magnets. We have discovered a magnet has two ends called the North Pole and the South Pole.  Like poles Repel  unlike poles Attract. Magnets are useful in everyday life.   We went fishing at our table groups. The fish with metal paper clips attached were caught by the magnets on the end of the rods. \ We also experimented with  Magnetic Sand.Holding our magnets under the paper plates we were able to move the sand and make interesting shapes. The magnetic force was strong.  Next week we will explore how  Sound  travels.
