Christmas is coming!

Image
December has finally arrived and Christmas is not far away! On Thursday we wrote our letters to Father Christmas and they have been posted off to him, so we'll all be on our best behaviour until then! We have also been practising for our Christmas Concert on Wednesday December 11th, and have some super Christmas songs to sing to you. Hopefully see you there!

How much popcorn?

Image
This week we started looking at capacity in Maths.  We measured half a cup of popcorn kernels and counted out how many spoonfuls we had. There were several different answers, from 3 spoonfuls to 21 spoonfuls, for the same amount of popcorn kernels. The reason? Our spoons were all different sizes ! We then estimated how much popcorn there would be if we popped the kernels-  it gets so much bigger and pushes the popcorn up out of the maker once popped.  We got a whole bowlful from half a cup of kernels.  And then? We ate it! Yum!

Room 3 Athletes!

Image
This week we finally had good weather for our Thursday Athletics practise. We had a go at high jump , and tried running from both sides to see which leg we wanted to jump off. Then scissor legs and whooosh , onto the mat! Good jumping Room 3! We also tried baton change , and practised passing the baton to our team members in relay races....tricky stuff while running.  We had great fun though!

Fantastic fireworks

Image
With fireworks all around us this week, we were thinking of WOW words to describe them so that we paint a picture in the listener's/ reader's mind.   Fizz , whizz , bang, explode , cascade , hover , shower , hiss, colourful ,  loud , hot , sparkle were some of the words we came up with.   We also made firework pictures using glitter, chalk, crayon, gel pens and wow words. WOW!

Balancing the scales!

Image
We are exploring Weight in Maths this term, and we have had fun estimating which teddies and classroom objects are the heaviest . We checked our estimates by weighing them against each other, and by using blocks, until the scales balanced . Good estimating Room 3! We also found out that our play-doh snakes weighed the same number of blocks when remodelled into a different shape, because although the shape has changed , they still weigh the same!

Welcome to Term 4!

Last term Room 3 had Performing Arts lessons each week. They learnt lots of different dances. On Friday, they shared one of the dances that they had learnt at the Full School Assembly. The audience sang as they did the dance. We hope you enjoy it!

Skipping September!

Image
On Friday we had a fantastic day! We took part in a whole range of fun skipping activities in our 'Jump Off.' We have been busy learning and practicing all sorts of skipping over the past term and are very proud of ourselves!  We skipped over a wiggly rope 'snake.'   We jumped as the big rope went over our heads. We skipped with a partner. We skipped forwards and backwards with our own rope. We did relays and even skipped with a hoop. We are sending money that we raised to the "New Zealand Heart Foundation.' They will use it for research and for schools to have ropes so that other children around New Zealand can have healthy hearts like us. Well done Room 3! Great effort everyone :)
