Our Christmas Concert

On Thursday, we dressed up in the colours of green or red and in the afternoon we went to the hall to perform some of our Christmas songs. Maz was the announcer and the very big audience really enjoyed our concert. We then had a yummy Christmas party outside under the sunshade with everyone.

A slideshow from France!

Joshua is now living in France and his mum sent us a slideshow of what he is doing there. We loved seeing him at his new home and school on our big classroom screen. We discussed each of the pictures and even practiced some French.

Education Outside the Classroom Week

Room 3 have had a lot of fun doing E.O.T.C. activities. On Monday, they were captivated by Zebong who told wonderful stories. He asked some children and teachers in the audience to act out different parts as he told the story. On Tuesday, we went into Wellington by bus and had a fantastic time at Capital E. First, we posted our wish lists into the Wishing tree and then walked through beautifully decorated Christmas trees and scenes. We then worked with Santa's elves to create a decoration for our tree, visit the Gingerbread house and do some fun activities while inside it. We also climbed the wall and visited Santa in his house while listening to stories. On Wednesday, we got out the parachute on the far field and had fun diving under it, running from side to side under it as our names were called and tried very hard to keep the balls on top of it as we shook it. Every week we have been learning new skills in athletics. We had our Athletics sports to show our friends and families how clever we were.

Maui - Our BMX champion!

Maui has been riding his BMX in competitions around the country and recently earned a trophy for winning the five and under race in Rotorua.

Welcome to Term 4!

Everyone has come back to school refreshed and ready for more wonderful learning. We welcomed Oliver to our class this week and we celebrated Harry's birthday as he turned six. Room 3 explored their favourite places around our playground to start off our inquiry.

Fabulous Sunflowers!

During last term Room 3 were making all sorts of art pieces using mixed media. Enjoy the sunflowers they have created using chalk, dye, paint and glitter.

Our stories about 'The Production!'

Last night the whole school went to school. Everybody came to the Production. We got dressed. We had tails. by Magnus Yesterday my Mum took me to the Production. It was fun. Our 'Keep New Zealand Green' Stories

I picked up rubbish with Harry and his buddies. There were tin cans and plastic. I was saving the planet. I liked picking up rubbish. We all liked it. by Maggie May I went to the beach. It was fun. I looked for Amy. She had picked up rubbish. We liked it. It was fun. I liked it and we went to school. by Ethan We went to the beach. We picked up rubbish with gloves on. Showtime!

O v e r t h e p ast few weeks Room 3 have been working with our friends in Room 1 to learn some dance routines for our item as part of our full school Production. This week we finally were 'Stars' on stage in 'The Short and Incredibly Happy Life of Riley." We all had rat costumes and our faces painted and then we went on stage and danced to "Walking on Sunshine." Enjoy the photos!

Clean up New Zealand Week!

On Wednesday Room 3 and their big buddies from Room 15 went to our local beach to pick up rubbish as part of Clean up New Zealand Week. When we got to the beach we all put on gloves and then with our buddies we headed up the beach and into the dunes. Any item that we found we took back to Ben who kept a total of all the different types of rubbish that was picked up. On our return to school our buddies are going to make a graph of what we discovered.

Room 3 - World wide Travels!

Amy and Mia went on a wonderful trip to Germany and while they were there they sent us photos of themselves having fun in the sun and water and also on a huge merry-go-round. They have now returned and have shown us a slideshow of what else they did. They also gave us some yummy sweets and cookies. Cella is touring around South America at the moment and this week she sent us some photos including her patting monkeys. Joshua is leaving this week and going to France and during the holidays Ollie will be moving here from England to join us.

Royal New Zealand Ballet

Recently some dancers from the Royal New Zealand Ballet visited our school. We watched them warm up at the barre and then perform some dances. The ballerina answered our questions, showed us some ballet shoes and then taught us some dance steps. We are looking forward to going into Wellington later in the year to watch them perform on stage.

Reading

Room 3 love reading and especially enjoy listening to stories. Here is Solomon reading one of his favourite books to us.

Life Education

This week we have had a lesson in the Life Education classroom with Jo and Harold, the giraffe. We are learning about a balanced diet, the food pyramid, parts of the body and all the things that we need to keep ourselves healthy. We talked about what foods we need to have most of, some of and a little of and then built the food pyramid. We learnt some actions and then we met Tam and discovered where our organs were. When we got back to our classroom we put on a suit and added the correct parts of the body to it.

Junior School Duathlon!

On Monday we ran, biked or scootered around the Duathlon course. First we ran very fast around the block and then we put on our helmets and rode our bikes or scooters very quickly to the Finish line. We all finished the whole race in under five minutes. Lots of mums and dads came along to watch or help us. We all enjoyed the fun experience and wish we could do it all again!

Soccer Fun!

Room 3 are soccer stars! Sportzone came to school and ran a tournament. We learnt lots of ball skills and played against other teams from year 1. Here we are trying our best.

Inquiry Learning with Gingerbread Men!

Room 3 have been learning about changes in food. On Thursday we put some dry ingredients and liquid together in a bowl and used a machine to change them into a mixture. We then rolled out this mixture and used a cutter to make the shape. Next we decorated and cooked our gingerbread men. They were absolutely delicious when we ate them!

A busy week!

Mr Chadwick talked to us about Matariki. We watched the children do weaving and string games. We also visited the worm farm and had fun in the boat of the senior garden area. We celebrated Green day by dressing up in lots of green clothes. Lucy and Maggie May completed level 29 of the Reading Rocket.

Science Fair

Our year 7 and 8 students invited us to see their wonderful Science Fair exhibits. We were amazed at all the experiments that they had done. Four of them bought their exhibits over to our classroom for us to have a closer look and to answer our questions.

Hosting Junior School Assembly.

All the Junior School classes joined us in room 3 for our Junior Assembly. Sam and Maggie May were the announcers and Joshua and Magnus introduced our class items. We sang an action song and played instruments. Cella read one of her fantastic stories to us. We showed a slide show of us acting out the Tale of Peter Rabbit.
