We love the new iPads!

We have had a fabulous time learning lots of wonderful things on the new iPads.  We worked together so nicely and had lots of fun doing maths and reading on them.  Take a look at us!

Room 3's first Production! Wow! Everyone worked very hard and tried their best and did wonderful performances being monkeys, elephants and tigers! You looked amazing and did the monkey dance so well. Outstanding work everyone!

Room 3 are fit!

On Monday, all of the Junior School took part in 'Skipping September.' This is the jumpoff which raises funds for the New Zealand Heart Foundation. Over the past few weeks, we have been learning how to skip with a rope in a variety of ways and were delighted to show what we could do. When it was time to have a rest we played 'Hot Potato.'  On Tuesday, we had our whole school 'Mini Olympics'. We loved being in different teams and taking part in all the fun activities. Have a look at our fantastic Olympians and the three students who became gold medallists!

Room 3 loves drama!

Image
Room 3 were very lucky to have a lovely student teacher teaching them for seven weeks. While she was with us, she taught some fabulous drama lessons. Room 3 really enjoyed our classroom being turned into a shop and a veterinary practice. Everyone took on a variety of roles and worked co-operatively as people of different ages, shop keepers, pets and vets. Have a look at us in action.

Handprint flowers!

Image
Room 3 have been learning about layering and making artworks in different dimensions. One day they made a background with some blue dye. When that was dry they painted their hands with either red or yellow paint and pressed them onto the blue background. When that was dry they tore up some paper into little pieces and made the stalks. They were very proud of their efforts and now their artworks are being made into calendars.

Art with Marbles!

Image
Marble art was so much fun! We put some paper into a container and on top of that we put different coloured paints. We added some marbles and then put the lid on. We shook the containers and danced with them. We even went on a walk around the playground with them! We carefully took the lid off and sprinkled some glitter onto the wet paint. Wow - what fabulous patterns we have created for the background of our 3D pictures.

Junior School Assembly

Image
Room 3 were hosts for the Junior School assembly recently. We were fabulous announcers! We talked about NED - Never give up, encourage others and do your best, the Olympic games and also the different countries our families have come from. We shared some work we had be doing as well as sang some songs and get HOWIE certificates for fantastic learning.

We love Kapahaka!

Image
Every week Room 3 joins their friends from rooms 1, 2 and 16 to do Kapahaka with Mr Chadwick. We have used poi and rakau and learnt many waiata.

Pavers

Image
Room 3 students each designed a paver so that butterflies could land on it in their gardens at home. They placed all sorts of shiny pebbles, stones and shells into sand following their design and then it was set into concrete. Here are some of us dusting off the sand from our pavers!

Learning about Fractions!

Image
Room 3 have been learning about halves, quarters and wholes during Mathematics so one day they made some delicious fairy bread. They discovered lots of different ways to make halves and quarters. Have a look at their discoveries!

Hedgehog Fun!

Image
Room 3 first read a book together and then they followed the instructions that were in it. They used marshmellows, pineapple pieces and grapes and put them onto skewers to make prickles. They put their one into half an orange which had cloves for eyes and this is what their hedgehogs looked like. Yum! They were so delicious they wanted to make them again!

Science Fair

Our Year 7 and 8 students had a wonderful Science Fair. We loved seeing all of their exhibits.
