Our Inquiry about the past

We have been learning about our family tree and the activities that our parents and grandparents did as children compared to what we do. Ana showed us photos of her grandparents and Ted showed us a quilt his grandma had made for him. The teachers showed items from their childhood. There was a small child's sewing machine, a wooden dolly peg, glass milk bottle, telephone and elastic twist game. We even saw a photo of what Muritai School looked like one hundred years ago.

From Ana's grandparents in Holland:

Opa was left-handed, but you were not allowed to write left-handed at school, so the picture shows him writing right-handed. Opa was in a class with 40 children.

Oma was in a girls school ran by nuns. The picture is from 1956. She had 40 children in her class too and when it was your birthday, you could choose a little job to do. She chose shoe-polishing!
At the end of the year they had a school trip to the playground or the zoo. This was the only trip in the whole year.
