Mixed Media Art

Image
Room 3 have been doing some Mixed Media Art . The process followed was that the children first observed some sunflowers and then used water colour paints on special water colour paper to create their own flowers. They also did lovely backgrounds and enjoyed moving the paint around the paper to create different shades. When their painting was dry, they used special pens to do the outlines and after that they also added either pastel or wax crayon for effect. They did an amazing job at their first attempts in water colour.  Here are what their pictures look like -  The pictures are on display in our corridor and copies have been made for the calendars and they are on our classroom window. Enjoy!

A Week in the Life of Room 3 We have begun our Maths unit on Measurement-beginning with measuring our height !! Quiet reading from our book boxes ! Proud of our published stories !! R eading Rotation activities. Creating our beautiful pots for our Inquiry focus on Chinese New Year . Filling up those special red envelopes -Ang Pow During Chinese New Year when friends and family are visiting one another it is a common custom to present the owner of the house with a pair of mandarin oranges and for the owner to return the gesture by giving the visitor another two mandarin oranges. Mandarin oranges are considered traditional symbols of abundance and good fortune. Room 3 have made their own beautiful mandarin trees resplendent in mosaic pots. Great work this week in Room 3.

This week we will begin learning some interesting facts about Chinese New Year and how this important festival is celebrated in New Zealand. We have hung our special lanterns  and can't wait to get started. We have discussed some of the facts we already know and what we would like to learn. We are also wondering if what we think we know will change as we explore this fantastic festival.   We think Chinese New Year : has something to do with Dragons has lots of dancing  has a lot to do with the colour Red has lots and lots of lanterns  We think people  eat lots of oranges  have big parties buy new clothes  have fun. Let's see if we are right.   Meanwhile we have completed some lovely Art work   around the celebration of  Diwali. And talking about celebrations-what fantastic writing we have been doing in Room 3.Recently we had some fun innovating on the story of Mrs Wishy Washy.
